Almost there, but not quite.

Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach did win 1st Runner-up during Bb. Pilipinas 2013 – her first attempt in the nationals. But it just wasn’t what she initially signed up for. The following year, she made her second immersion and slid back despite a more improved reinvention of herself (watch video of footages from Bb. Pilipinas 2014 above).

This year, the 25 year-old is giving it her third and final try. And boy, is she really giving it her all. The object of desire is the Miss Universe Philippines crown, and she is not letting up in the pursuit of such.

There were wild rumors during the last quarter of 2014 that she is considering taking part in Germany’s search for its next Miss Universe representative. Your blogger was even hinted of this possibility when Pia once made a random Facebook update about learning how to speak German more properly. But it was only limited to that.

The call of a Bb. Pilipinas victory is much more enticing for this Aces & Queens bet. I certainly can’t blame her. Wearing the Philippine sash is unquestionably an exciting prospect, bar none.

Just like Pia Wurtzbach in the previous post, this one should also start with the line “Almost there, but not quite”

Hannah Ruth Sison, the current Binibini 28 in Bb. Pilipinas 2015, is in her third and perhaps, final foray into the nationals. Her very first edition was back in 2013 which came and go without so much funfare. But not the type who would get easily discouraged, she signed up for the 2014 batch where she made progressive strides and netted the 2nd Runner-Up position during the finals.

Inspired by the victory of her good friend MJ Lastimosa as Miss Universe Philippines 2014, Hannah is more excited in this year’s search. And it doesn’t take a lot of analysis to arrive at a conclusion that she is keenly eyeing the top prize. She wants to be the successor of our girl in Doral Miami at the moment.

In spite of the tough line-up, she remains unperturbed and is, in fact, more confident than ever to achieve her goal.

Here’s the 411 on Binibini 16 Marvi Ann Razon de Lima for Bb. Pilipinas 2015.

This 24 year-old Bicolana is actually the reigning Miss Iriga City and Miss Camarines Sur – the hometown and province she is representing in the nationals. A Registered Nurse who specializes in Operating Room procedures by profession, she is currently a Masteral student in Nursing who campaigns for health and wellness by way of education among women in particular.

Standing 5’8″, Marvi is a mean baker outside of work and she can come up with the yummiest cakes and pastries if so desired. Her initial plan was to take part in Mutya ng PIlipinas 2014, but was prevailed upon by Aces & Queens to go for Bb. Pilipinas instead after work commitments prevented her from joining the former middle of last year.

Can Marvi Ann whip up a strong strategy in the competition? She really trained long and hard for this one. And she will be most happy and proud if the reward will come in the form of a Bb. Pilipinas crown.

Nancy went on to become Miss Philippines Water 2013

The Pride of Zamboanga City, Nancy Lee Leonard, intends to add more honor to her birthplace down south after making it as Official Candidate of Bb. Pilipinas 2015. She is now Binibini 29.

Back in 2013, she already made a successful run during Miss Philippines Earth 2013 when she finished Miss Water to eventual top placer Angelee delos Reyes. She got promoted to Miss Air when Kimverlyn Suiza resigned the 1st Runner-up post to be able to join Bb. Pilipinas 2014.

Nancy spent the most part of last year improving on herself and training even harder for the demands of the country’s premier pageant. With the help of the KF experts, she increased her confidence even more and got trained to set the bar higher for herself.

Her eyes are transfixed on the targetted prize – a Bb. Pilipinas crown. If she can place well in MPE, then she surely must have just as much chance to rank high this time around. ;-)

With the previously-blogged withdrawal of Kimberle Mae Penchon as Official Candidate of Bb. Pilipinas 2015, it was only a matter of time before her replacement was announced by the organizers. One KF out, another KF in.

Maolin Yalung, who many thought should have easily coasted to the list of Official Candidates, had to pass through the eye of a needle before becoming one. Now that she is the new Binibini 9, trust this girl to prove even more that she deserved to be part of the batch in the first place.

Binibini 4 Renee Soraya Hassani for Bb. Pilipinas 2015

While Binibini 4 Renee Soraya Hassani made at least one screening attempt for Bb. Pilipinas in a previous year, this is the edition where she finally made the cut and will now officially vie for one of the five (5) crowns up for grabs come March 15. As one of the R-L Angels who qualified, she will team up with Ria Rabajante to try and score a first-ever major title for the camp.

After clinching First Runner-Up during last year’s Mr. and Miss Diversity Culture International competition held here in Manila, Soraya has gained sufficient confidence to come forward and show that she has what it takes to represent the country in a bigger beauty pageant abroad.

Will Renee Soraya come out on top?

Will Lady Luck stay put on Renee Soraya Hassani’s side till the finals on March 15?

We’ll see. For now, good luck in the search, girl! :-D

In what is considered their first public appearance as a group, the Bb. Pilipinas 2015 Official Candidates presented themselves at the newly-opened Gateway Museum in Araneta Center.

You can see the excitement in their faces, dressed in identical blue sleeveless tops and denims.

There's even a petition to reinstate Christine as Bb. Pilipinas 2015 Official Candidate

Truth be told, I’m not sure what words or phrase or statement to use in describing the removal of Binibini 5 Christine Balaguer from the roster of Bb. Pilipinas 2015 Official Candidates. And I don’t want to hazard a guess as to which one of the following possibilities:

1) Did she back out?
2) Was she disqualified for a valid reason?
3) Was she asked to resign instead for a valid reason?
4) Was she removed due to her being deaf? (with corresponding arrangements needed to be put into place to accomodate the translation/interpretation requirements? )

It could most likely be one of the above.

But I have no way of confirming anything because lips are still sealed.

So I might as well wait for an official press statement from BPCI regarding this matter.

In the meantime, the started petition to reinstate Christine as Binibini 5 could be in limbo for now. If it doesn’t prosper, then let’s enjoy the sweet lass via her filmed truth or dare video before all of this happened.

Ann Colis is fully made up and ready to take the spotlight!

Ann is a true-blue Kapampangan homegrown beauty

Ann Lorraine Colis, Binibini 24 in Bb. Pilipinas 2015, is a 22 year-old lass from Pampanga who is studying for a degree in Accounting from the University of Santo Tomas. She stands a true 5’8″ and has been working as runway model for quite some time now. She trained with Aces & Queens.

This smart and athletic charmer grew up having the drive and passion in everything she sets her heart and mind into. So when it was time to take the pageant decision to greater heights, she trained and trained and trained like a real trouper. The focus remains intact, never unwavering. While she is fully aware that the national competition has become such a tough challenge for all qualified joiners, there is also the inner desire to excel in Bb. Pilipinas.

Binibini 13 Mae Liezel Ramos took stock of her learnings from Bb. Pilipinas 2014 and wants to show a more redefined version of herself for Bb. Pilipinas 2015. The way I size her up now, the sweetness level has been upped by at least a notch or two. And compared to last year when she projected a relatively more stilted image onstage, methinks she is driving towards being less diva-esque in presentation and leaning more on likeability. And I’d day that it’s a good thing altogether.

She is the replacement for Kimberle Mae Penchon who withdrew from the Bb. Pilipinas 2015 competition to pursue a business opportunity that might not get around in her favor again. And Maolin Yalung is just too happy to fill in the shoes as Binibini 9. After all, they come from the same beauty camp (Kagandahang Flores) so the total number of heads did not change at all. She can even go one step further and consider the turn of events a blessing in disguise less than two months from now.

At any rate, Maolin’s inclusion made it in time for her to film the Truth and Dare video that everyone else completed shortly before she taped hers. See if this Kapampangan gives the positive vibe that will convince you to put her on the short-list of potential winners for now. ;-)

Looks like someone listened and is now more open to using Filipino designs for the presentation of the Bb. Pilipinas 2015 Official Candidates. Hopefully, the wardrobe approval will extend to the eventual winners of the five crowns come March 15 and their respective pageant assignments throughout the year.

As some people would say, there’s nothing like a good (or loud if you will) wake-up call to finally rouse a sleeping giant from deep slumber. This could very well be the start of a new chapter in Bb. Pilipinas. :-)

Paula Rich Bartolome is no longer new to beauty pageants. Back in 2012, she participated in Miss World Philippines won by Queenie Rehman. Years before that, she was a finalist during Supermodel of the World Philippines 2009. And in her province of Laguna, she already held the title of Binibining Sta. Cruz. For all its worth, she has already paid her dues enough to qualify as Binibini 15 of Bb. Pilipinas 2015.

Standing at a competitive 5’8.5″, Paula is treating the nationals with a lot of determination. She wants to do her province and beauty camp (Aces & Queens) proud, aside from proving to herself that she made the right decision to give it one last big try.

In this, Patricia Lae Ejercitado’s third and final attempt to nail a crown in the nationals, she made sure that all bases continue to be covered. After switching beauty camps from R-L Angels to Kagandahang Flores, she also exudes that extra exotic vibe in person. Yesterday, she commanded a duskier presence that can easily catch anyone’s attention upon first glance. I liked what I saw.

But then again, she needs to work harder in this batch. The mix of old-timers and newcomers are close to exceptional. It’s like no one among them will ever let up in the race for the crown. And since it’s now-or-never for Pat, she has to give it all that she’s got. I really hope she does. ;-)

Above is my first “Twelve To Triumph” list for Bb. Pilipinas 2015

This much I can say.

The Official Candidates of Bb. Pilipinas 2015 are giving me a chronic headache. Just when I thought a right first combo would be perfect, another one would mess things up and juggle the standings in my head. But don’t get me wrong. I’m loving the beautiful confusion. It makes for a really tough group of contenders to assess.

This batch is a very good one – a rich mix of repeaters/crossovers and fresh faces who are both very competitive and capable of clinching a national title. And so, for my first “Twelve To Triumph” list, I am including a relatively easy ranking of my running favorites without intellectualizing too much on their individual plus points for consideration. Hence, consider this a quick round-up of the beauties based on what they can offer to the random spectator who may catch all of them in public or during a personal appearance.

Pia Wurtzbach and Hannah Ruth Sison offer instant face familiarity, and gorgeous ones at that. Janicel Lubina is the Pinay looker who can make heads turn fast. But Alaiza Malinao is the presence that exudes facial beauty, regal presence and imposing aura altogether – one of this year’s most promising challengers.

These are my dozen picks for January 31. A week from now, the second list will come out with expected movements.

Watch out for it! ;-)
